Look out beauty bloggers because this air purifier knows how to blend in. IKEA is the eroticization of genderannouncing a smart air purifier disguised as a side table (or a side table that purifies the air, depending on which way you see it.)
Many of us have been spending more time at home. So whether it’s a countertop dishwasher to make life a little easier in a shoebox apartment, or an air purifier to protect yourself from pathogens, now feels like a good time to invest in appliances. And with wildfires in California spreading across the country all the way to New York, air quality is suddenly a national issue.
The Starkvind is IKEA’s first smart air purifier and the latest addition to its Home Smart line of products. This means that when connected to the larger Home Smart system via another device called a Trådfri Gateway, you can control your Starkvind from your smartphone through IKEA’s app.
The purifier has a three-stage filtration system, designed to capture everything from large particles like dust and hair to small airborne particles like pollen. The Starkvind offers five fan speeds and has an auto-mode which means the fan speed will automatically adjust based on the amount of PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) in the air, thanks to its built-in sensor. The sensor can also deliver air quality information to the aforementioned app.
If air purifiers that look like tables aren’t your thing, the Starkvind also comes in a standalone model that isn’t afraid to be itself.
The Starkvind will be available in October 2021.
