It hard to believe that it's been 20 years since the world was rocked by the news of Princess Diana's death.

On Aug. 31, 1997, the Princess of Wales died in a fatal car accident while travelling through the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris. Her companion, Dodi Fayed, and driver, Henri Paul, were also killed in the crash.

It was one of those "where were you when ... ?" moments. Two decades on, people are sharing their memories of how they learned of Diana's untimely death:

Princess Diana was tragically taken too soon. There was an outpouring of grief all over the world in 1997. Today, her memory lives on through her children, the public who adored her, and the people whose lives she touched through her charity work.

She was, and always will be, the People's Princess.
