Whether or Watch Brooklyn Ninenot you think Twitter's decision to expand tweets to 280 characters is "wow, great evolution of a useful tool!" or "actually, this is bad because Twitter is bad," one thing is certain: not everyone has it yet.
But thanks to some eagle-eyed users, if you're still one of the (un)lucky Tweeters with a measly 140 characters with which to scream into the echo chamber, there are a couple of hacks to get you the full deal.
SEE ALSO: Twitter is testing a 280-character expansion and everyone is making the same jokeFor one approach, according to The Next Web'swork-around, you'll need to use Tweetdeck in Chrome. Once there, you can go to the "Developer Tools" option by selecting "Developer" under Chrome's "View" menu option.
Per The Next Web's steps, click on the Sources menu in the new Developer window and then click the arrow to the left of "(index)." From there choose the "Snippet" option.
Note that this could look different on your browser depending on window size and other factors.
Click "New Snippet," paste in the code found right here, and hit the little "play" button. Once you've pasted it in, close out of the developer widow and you can use Tweetdeck as normal except you'll have the 280-character limit.
UPDATE:This handy dandy bookmark with a few simple instructions seems to implement this code so that you only need to click once while in Tweetdeck to get the desired effect as opposed to entering the code manually.
Either way:
Boom. Welcome to a brave new world. (As long as you don't close the Tweetdeck tab, then you have to repeat the steps above.)

If you want to avoid Tweetdeck and don't mind a bit of playing about with code directly in Chrome, Engadgetpoints out a TamperMonkey script that forces your Twitter web client tweets to expand to the 280-character limit as well.

Now, none of this solves whether or not having 280 characters is a goodthing.
But it is a thing and if you don't want Twitter FOMO then have at it. At least until Twitter pushes out its own patches and blocks us -- ever-so-temporarily -- from living the TWO-EIGHT-ZERO life.
