Food blog Eater tweeted a photo of a rather unappetising-looking dish alongside the statement that "mince meat on toast is a quintessential British comfort classic". Only problem is, most Brits on Twitter hadn't heard of the purportedly "classic" dish.
In Eater's article, the dish is described as comprising ground beef in a rich beef stock sauce, carrots, onions and tomatoes, all served up on a slice of sour dough bread fried in beef fat. Sounds...delicious?

Brits were highly unconvinced, to say the least.

Some people wondered if Eater had mixed up "mince" with cheese or baked beans.

And Chocolatauthor Joanne Harris reminded everyone of mince's mention in Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat.

Eater later chimed in to say that the original phrasing of the tweet, which hailed mince on toast a "British classic," had been inaccurate.

Sorry, Eater. Neither a classic, nor quintessentially British.
