It endangered my family's life and it endangered my life," Goldberg explained. "It turns out the entire website was created by a guy who just wanted to see how quickly stories he made up would spread."
The comments in question came from conservative site The Underground Report, which falsely claimed in early March that Goldberg said the the wife of a Navy SEAL honored during Donald Trump's speech to Congress was "just looking for attention."
In fact, as her co-hosts emphasized, Goldberg expressed the opposite sentiment -- that she didn't think someone would use their grief for publicity.
On The View, Goldberg compared the situation to last December's violent "Pizzagate" incident in Washington D.C. that was sparked by a false online story.
"If I hadn't been made aware of this, I could have found about this at the end of a barrel of a gun," she said about the fake story about her.
Because of the article, she suggested she plans to sue the person behind the site as well as support the creation of legislation that requires consent from all parties involved in "fake news."
“Sir, the fact that you don’t give a crap that it endangered me is unconscionable and I’m going to get my lawyer and I’m coming for you," she declared.
Go get 'em, Whoopi.
