On the scale of "Problematic Shit the President Says," Trump's Michigan speech hit maybe a 6 or a 7 (out of 10). But, as many pointed out on social media in the later hours of the evening, the fixation on Wolf's jokes -- at an event that is essentially an annual roast, to be clear -- shifted attention away from the president's bluster.
The ensuing conversation sprawled out in many directions. Some hit Wolf for what they saw as jabs at White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders physical appearance. Others questioned the present-day value of the WHCD. Still others waved wildly at the things Trump said.
Whatever your takeaway is, the thunderous response to Wolf's performance did drown out much of the chatter around Trump's words. Concern over that is definitely a running theme in the social media conversations that played out afterward.
