Apple's suing another company again,The Relic Of My Sister Next Door and this time it's not Samsung.
On this week's MashTalk, MashableTech Editor Pete Pachal, Chief Correspondent Lance Ulanoff and yours truly chat about Apple's lawsuit against Qualcomm and the latest iPhone 8 rumors.
We also have special guest, Tech Reporter Brett Williams, to explain why everyone should get laser eye surgery in case of the apocalypse.
SEE ALSO: MashTalk: Looking back at the biggest trends of CES 2017Consumers might not care as much over legal battles between tech giants, but Apple's $1 billion lawsuit against Qualcomm could have huge ramifications for future iPhones, namely who will supply the baseband processor (the module that's essential to helping you connect to cell towers and Wi-Fi).
Without getting into the nitty gritty (you'll have to listen to the podcast for full details), Apple's essentially accusing Qualcomm of being a patent troll and charging royalties "for technologies they have nothing to do with."
We also talk more iPhone 8 rumors. Apple's not expected to announce the iPhone 8 or "iPhone X" as some reports are calling it, for another eight months, but that doesn't mean the leaks aren't coming in. Whether they're real or fake is another thing.
Closing out this week's MashTalk, Brett dives into why he got laser eye surgery a few years back. Spoiler alert: It's the same reason why Reddit co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman got it in case the world comes to an end. If you haven't read his fantastic personal essay on the matter, you really should.
